Judgement FREE July
I am starting a movement & I invite you all to join. I want to make a conscious effort to be aware of my negative judgements throughout July. The goal? To try to rewire my brain to make the positive pathways stronger, and diminish he negative ones. Isn’t the brain amazing that it is able to do that? You see, our brains are simply there in order for us to survive. It does not see right or wrong. That role lies in our consciousness. So, I hope that through this rewiring, my consciousness will take a higher path in the future and break the unhealthy patterns of judgments.
To start, let’s define what a judgement is. A judgement is a conclusion that we make based on our own perceptions, assumptions, agreements and expectations. Very often, we make judgements against other people. Whether they are friends, family, colleagues or strangers. It doesn’t matter who the judgement is about, it is still a “behind the back” (or sometimes not) comment that doesn’t serve any positive purpose.
Next, let’s think about why we judge others. Most of the time our judgements come from a place of fear. It’s our insecurity. Our feeling of inadequacy. We are scared or feel threatened by others and therefore seek to put them down in order to puff up our chests and make ourselves feel that little bit invincible at the expense of someone else’s feelings. Our capability to judge is a direct reflection of how we are feeling. The happier we are with ourselves, the less we judge.
Which brings me to my next point. Stop judging yourself! We all know that we are in control of our own lives, decisions, actions and reactions. And once we start to accept ourselves for who we are and stop judging ourselves for the jeans that are getting a little too tight, for the negative comment (judgement) that a colleague made to us about our last project, for the fact that you might not be exactly where you expected to be at this stage in life, only then can we truly elevate our brain pathways to take the stronger, more positive route. Learn to love yourself, and then you’ll have more love to give to others, and the negative judgements will naturally melt away.
Today, I am by no means “judge free”. I mean, I can really judge others. I’ve lived on the dark side, and it isn’t pretty nor healthy. I’ve spiralled into those talks with others that generate nothing but negative judgements. I’ve bitched and moaned and drained myself of energy by giving judgements the time that they don’t deserve. However, in July I will endeavour to be consciously aware of my judgements. I want to take accountability for them, stand back & reflect on them, in some cases I want to go deeper to understand why I might have made that judgement, and finish by reprogramming the judgement to something positive.
The change lies within me. I know the theory.
